Your privacy is very important to us. The following will inform you of the information that we may collect from you, and how it is used. By using our website (Site), you are accepting the practices described in this policy.
1. What information do you collect?
When you visit this Site, we may collect non-personal aggregate information, such as a domain name and IP Address. Aggregate information does not identify you personally but allows us to understand how visitors use our Site. The domain name and IP address reveal nothing personal about you other than the IP address from which you have accessed our Site. We may also collect information about the type of Internet browser and operating system you are using, as well as which of our web pages you have accessed. This allows us to optimize our Site for a better user experience.
We may also collect personal information, but only if you decide to share it with us. Personal information is any information about you that is personally identifiable, such as your name, address, e-mail address or telephone number, and credit card information. It includes information that you provide in connection with registering to use the Site, registering for an event, or ordering products or services offered on the Site. It also includes information about how you use the Site.
2. How and when do you collect this information?
We may collect information in basically two ways. First, by monitoring the use of the Site through Web server logs and cookies, we may collect aggregate statistical information. Cookies tell us nothing about you personally, but allow us to customize the Site to better meet your needs. Cookies cannot pass on viruses, harm your computer or pass on personal information such as an e-mail address without your intervention. If you are uncomfortable about cookies, you should be able to disable your Web browser from accepting cookies or to alert you before accepting cookies.
Second, we may collect personal information that you decide to give us in connection with registering to use the Site, ordering products or services or submitting comments on a blog post or communicating with us. For example, if you submit a comment on a blog post, you will be asked to provide your name or nickname, which will be displayed next to your comment, and an email address that which will not be published, but which we may use to contact you in relation to your comment. If you communicate with us regarding our Site or our services, we will collect any information that you provide to us in any such communication in order to respond to you. When you are asked to provide personal information, you may decline. But if you choose not to provide the information, you may not be able to use some features or services.
3. How is my information used?
We use non-personal information to help us better understand what portions of the Site visitors find useful, to improve the experience of visitors to the Site, and to customize the Site to better meet your needs. This information may also be provided to advertisers since it helps them understand how many users viewed their ads.
4. What security safeguards are in place?
The security of your personal information is important to us. We protect your personal information by making reasonable security arrangements against such risks as unauthorized access, use, collection, disclosure or disposal. Security measures have been integrated into the design, implementation and day-to-day operating practices as part of our commitment to protect the personal information it holds.
When you enter sensitive information such as a credit card number on our registration or order forms, we encrypt that information using secure socket layer technology (SSL). We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect the Personal Information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it. However, no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. Therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
6. Will you disclose the information you collect to outside third parties?
We will disclose personal information and/or an IP address, when required by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to:
Comply with any applicable law, regulation, legal process or enforceable governmental request.
Enforce our Terms of Service, including investigation of potential violations.
Detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues.
Protect against harm to the rights, property or safety of the Local Search Association, our users or the public as required or permitted by law.
8. Do you protect the privacy of children who use the Site?
We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. Our Site is not intended for use by children, and we do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. If a child under the age of 13 provides us with personal information (for example, by registering for a conference), we will delete that information upon request of a parent.
9. What else should I know about my privacy when online?
Please keep in mind that whenever you voluntarily disclose personal information online – for example through e-mail, discussion boards, or elsewhere – that information can be collected and used by others. In short, if you post personal information online that is accessible to the public, you may receive unsolicited messages from other parties in return.
Ultimately, you are solely responsible for maintaining the privacy of your personal information. Please be careful and responsible whenever you are online.
10. I am a California resident. What additional rights do I have?
Under California Civil Code sections 1798.83-1798.84, California residents who have an established business relationship with us are entitled to request a notice describing what categories of personal customer information we share with third parties or corporate affiliates for those third parties or corporate affiliates’ direct marketing purposes. If you request it, we will provide you with a notice of your right to prevent sharing of your personal information as well as a cost-free means of doing so. If you are a California resident and would like a copy of this notice, please submit a written request specifying that you seek your "California Customer Choice Notice" to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please allow 30 days for a response.
11. Do you track your users?
We do not track our customers over time and across third party websites to provide targeted advertising and therefore do not respond to Do Not Track (DNT) signals. However, some third party websites do keep track of your browsing activities when they serve you content, which enables them to tailor what they present to you. Many browsers allow you to send a DNT signal so that the websites you visit know you do not want to be tracked.
